Info

Peng Yi-Hsuan is a Tainan-based artist and spatial practitioner who develops a cross-disciplinary and decentralized mode of practice through the interplay of artistic production, spatial operation, and publishing. His work extends beyond the making of artworks, focusing on how “things” are transformed, circulated, and reorganized across different systems.

Centered on the framework of Dong-Xi Shi (Things ,Acts, and Beings), Peng approaches objects as active agents that move between image, drawing, and ceramic processes, while also extending into exhibitions, residency programs, and publications. Rather than emphasizing singular outcomes, his practice builds evolving structures that can accommodate collaboration, exchange, and long-term dialogue.

As a co-founder of Tu Xing Studio and Zit-Dim Art Space, Peng has been actively facilitating connections among artists, curators, and researchers across Asia. Through residency programs and inter-institutional collaborations, he develops a network-based approach grounded in shared resources and distributed nodes. This model prioritizes sustained exchange over one-directional presentation.

His practice ultimately operates as a crystallizing model — where distributed nodes converge into structure, generating an expanding network of relations and agency.

What are you up to here?

L7-23 (JCCAC)30 Pak Tin Street, Shek Kip Mei, Kln.

What are you doing here?

This is the first question I get from every Hong Kong friend that I haven't seen for a long time.

With an identity, be it Zit Dim art space, Tu Xing Studio, friend, or an individual, South Ho  just wants to try to see the possibilities of such a residency method, a short residency in 25 days of work, not like an organization's general response method, which has more states of people's relationship with each other to look back and slowly become one by one.

During the five years of Zit Dim art space, many Hong Kong art creators, performers, organizations and teams have had short-term residencies and established communication with Zit Dim art space. After the opening of the borders one by one in the post-epidemic period, South and I met again in Tainan to discuss the possibility of a residency and exchange, and even though we each have our own work and careers in progress, what I cared about during the fast-paced residency was re-establishing my Hong Kong friends that I had met in Taiwan, and understanding what their current status was.

Hong Kong has been a month of exploding exhibitions, with many openings and exhibitions, and I can also feel that Hong Kong's fast-paced atmosphere allows us to talk non-stop when we meet people. Perhaps because we haven't seen each other for a long time, the artists are actually telling each other about their own recent events, which is also part of their lives, and this is the same anywhere, in fact, it's a way of talking about art, but at the same time it's also a way of talking about their lives.

This time, in the "New Park" residency, I will mainly talk about what I am doing here, and how to slowly re-establish and re-communicate one by one.

Rain and Snow Mixed

The whole piece is made by removing the original Christmas characters and objects, leaving the pedestal. The form of the snowy light is a perfect fit for the upcoming Christmas season, and the absence of the light is created after the removal of the light.

The appearance is somewhat like a western copper material, but the texture is light plastic. Even the surface like a glass ball is in fact only a transparent bottle material, with an oily lubricant added to the water inside, allowing the silver fragments to float in the not-so-large space with the disturbance of the water to create a floating dynamic. The only thing worth mentioning here is that the propeller of the motor is rotated by magnets.

What I am actually doing is just disassembling, through disassembling this object of decoration, to re-understand the functionality of its structure, and to wonder what the state of affairs inside is, through disassembling, removing and reassembling, to change the object of gaze, or rather, to reopen the gaze on it.
